What is VR – what did I miss?

Wondering what VR is and why everyone is talking about it?
We at VRGaming see that many customers show great interest in VR and buying their first VR headset (VR glasses) and we really understand that, VR is amazing in so many ways. But for those who have never tried VR or even heard of it, what is VR and what can VR offer you?

Just the name VR itself raises questions, what does it mean? VR means virtual reality. That is the reality I will try to describe in this post. I’m not going to get into any complicated and technical descriptions, but will instead try to describe what happens and how you will feel when you put on a VR headset for the first time. What is it about VR that fascinates and makes people buy and spend hours with these glasses on their heads?

What is the difference between VR and video games?

To help explain the magic of VR, I’ll make a comparison with video games. I think everyone has come into contact with video games in some way. You have either played the game yourself or watched someone else play. When playing video games, you control a person or an object using your controller. You may be immersed in the game, but you never become one with the person you control. You are just the “driver” who helps the character or object move forward.

The magic of VR is that, unlike a video game, you feel like you are in the game. You are not playing a character, you ARE the character. When you put on a headset to box, you will feel like you ARE the boxer.

Why should I try VR?

I will continue to use boxing as an example and try to describe what you experience when you put on your glasses and step into the boxing ring. Hold on tight when you put the headset on because at first it can be a bit dizzying. Your eyes feel like they are in the screen in front of you but your body remains in the real world. If you feel dizzy, take the headset off, pause and start again, never push yourself if you feel bad.

If you are expecting to see yourself, you will be disappointed, this is not a video game where someone else will be controlled, you will control yourself. You don’t usually see yourself except when you’re in front of the mirror, right? You see yourself the same way in VR as you do in the real world. If you turn your head to the right in the real world, you will also turn to the right in the virtual world. If you look straight ahead, you might see a plain wall, if you turn to the right you might see a wall with windows, and if you turn around you will suddenly find yourself in front of a door. If you squat instead, you will be looking straight into the boxing ring’s ropes.

So you experience a room from all angles, just as you do when you look around the room you are currently in. Put on your VR headset, look around, spin around on the floor and see what the room you are in looks like around you.

You want to do more than see in the virtual world, you want to be able to move.

As I mentioned, when you turn on your headset and move into your virtual world, your eyes are immediately engaged. To use your body in VR, there are sensors on hand controllers and headsets that keep track of your movements.

Take a look at your opponent, try some air punches and warm up your body by moving from side to side and doing some squats and jumps. This alone is an experience, before the match even starts you will feel WOW.

What happens if we start the match?

When the match starts, you will have an opponent in front of you and he is keen to box. Have you warmed up properly so your swing is good and your footwork is on point? By moving your arms, you make your virtual body direct its blows at the opponent. If you don’t strike, your opponent is guaranteed to do so. When your opponent strikes, you are guaranteed to back up, you will basically feel the airflow against your nose. If the opponent also gets a hit, you will be left gasping for breath. It really feels like you’re being hit, with the advantage that in VR you don’t have the physical pain.

Being in the virtual world is cool every time, but it’s especially cool the first time. It is a magical experience that once you have experienced it once, you want to experience it again and again. After choosing to buy VR glasses, this experience can be enhanced in different ways through various accessories. In this case, for example, you can use boxing gloves to enhance the feeling.

A virtual world full of opportunities

As soon as you put on a pair of VR glasses, you step into a virtual reality full of possibilities. But there are not only games, virtual reality can offer a great variety. You can take a ride on a roller coaster where you feel like you’re really in the carriage, which is a cool experience, you can take a trip around the world where you can walk around at street level looking at shop windows, walk around on a sandy beach or you can dive with dolphins. There is so much to see and experience with a VR headset that the only limit is your imagination.

VR has something to offer most people.

Are you looking for relaxation? A new way to interact with people? A way to vent your frustration? Or maybe you want to move more? VR covers all that.

Do you want to play fun games, get a chance to see parts of the world you can’t visit, get a chance to do what you’ve dreamed of but never dared? With VR accessories that you can find here at VRGaming, you can further enhance the cool feeling.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced VR player, VR has a lot to offer. The only people who are not recommended to use VR are children under the age of 13, because there is currently too little research on how VR affects children. Please read more about this in the Health and Safety section of your headset’s user manual.
